Mexico City, January 31 – February 1, 2014.
You are invited to join leading human rights activists and donors from around the world for a two-day gathering in Mexico with frontline women human rights defenders. These courageous activists are members of the Mesoamerican Women Human Rights Defenders Initiative, a ground-breaking program that protects, supports, and strengthens activists who are leading important human rights battles in Mexico and Central America despite threats and high levels of violence. The key objectives of this convening are to learn from this innovative, multi- stakeholder partnership and to develop ways to sustain this vital work in the future.
”Women are at the frontlines of the movements and organizations that actively defend human rights. [W]e mobilize to defend land, territory and the natural resources of indige- nous peoples. Women are also the majority of those who combat impunity and seek justice for the victims of murders, kidnappings, sexual violence and femicide.”
