Call for Training Applicants on Integrated Community-Based TB Activities, February 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya.

World Health Organization and African Medical and Research Foundation are launching a call for applicants for training of consultants. Focus of the training are integrated community-based programmatic activities of TB (the ENGAGE-TB Approach).

The training will take place on 10-14 February 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Background

The WHO guidance on ENGAGE‐TB: Integrating Community Based TB Activities into the work of NGOs and other CSOs aims at promoting and facilitating integration of TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care services into the community‐based activities of NGOs and other CSOs working on HIV, health and other development areas The operational guidance stipulates what needs to be done by NGOs and other CSOs and by National TB Programmes (NTPs) by identifying six critical components of the approach.

Objectives of the training

The overall objective of the training is to create a pool of consultants on integrated community based programmatic activities of TB (the ENGAGE‐TB Approach )so that they can assist in planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of NGOs, national programmes and other stakeholders.

Process of selection of applicants

WHO and AMREF will provide support for limited number of highly qualified applicants to attend the training . The support will include airfare cost and daily allowance for food and lodging only for the duration of the training. Candidates satisfying the following criteria and who are willing to serve as consultants to the ENGAGE‐TB Approach are encouraged to apply.

Functional skills and knowledge
  • Knowledge of community‐based programmes, organizations, NGOs, their networks and their links with local and national governments
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Analytical and problem‐solving capabilities
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
  • Computer literacy.
Education

Advanced university degree in one or more of the following: development studies, public policy, public health, management, social science, or related fields

Experience
  • Experience working with community‐based organizations and/or NGOs in developing countries
  • Experience in implementing/reviewing/assessing community‐based health care programmes (preferably TB, HIV and/or MCHprogrammes)
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating community‐based health or development projects

Qualified candidates who can cover their cost of transport and daily allowance will be given free tuition and are encouraged to indicate that in their application.
