Is universal health coverage working for women and girls?
In September 2019, world leaders endorsed an ambitious and comprehensive political declaration on health at the United Nations High-Level Meeting (UN HLM) on Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Some of the commitments that the UHC movement has focused on include gender equality – in particular to ensure gender equality, redressing harmful gender power dynamics and ensuring women’s and girls’ rights are foundational principles in UHC. UHC2030 has just launched an online survey primarily for civil society and community in country to reflect and contribute feedback, stories, evidence, and materials that tell the real story of health care at country level which could be used in the State of UHC Commitment Report that UHC2030 is working on.
Many countries are taking real and measurable steps forward to achieve UHC. To better understand these global and country commitments, ensuing in this survey to produce a multi-stakeholder review called the ‘State of UHC Commitment’ with hard data about how governments are delivering on their commitment to UHC. This survey is seeking responses from organizations working towards UHC and aims to:
- Gain insight into progress towards UHC at country and community levels through collecting the experiences of non-government actors, especially civil society and private sector
- Ensure that UHC2030’s State of UHC commitment review reflects the reality of UHC in communities
