On the 13 October W4GF organised a second webinar (a series of two) in partnership with APCASO and Eastern Africa National Networks of AIDS and Health Service Organisations (EANNASO) to know more about community systems strengthening (CSS) and to engage with colleagues working on CSS at the Global Fund Secretariat and partners.

This webinar recording from 13 October is accessible here and the webinar recording from 8 September is accessible here.

50 participants engaged in this webinar given the overwhelming response to the first webinar. Participants agreed that more discussion is required to learn more from national CSS interventions supported by the Global Fund and to talk about what we need in the next Global Fund strategy to move this work forward especially in the upcoming development of the Global Fund new Strategy 2023 – 2028. The webinar was organised so that those who did not engage in the first would still be able to understand the topic and to engage in the discussion.  Speakers included:

CSS is essential to achieving progress against the three diseases and to fulfil their principles of promoting human rights and gender equality. Interventions that the Global Fund supports are outlined in the Community Systems Strengthening Module in the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) component of the Modular Framework which is the tool that the Global Fund provides for countries to structure their funding requests.  The module provides opportunities to invest in four priority community systems strengthening interventions:

  • Community-based monitoring;
  • Community-led advocacy and research;
  • Social mobilization, building community linkages and coordination; and
  • Institutional capacity building, planning and leadership development.
