Standing with Sudanese women in the midst of war

Call for International Action

The war in Sudan is devastating. Deaths and human rights violations are affecting women. In early May, Sudanese Women Rights Action (SUWRA) reported that dozens of women had been killed and at least seven raped by both warring parties. Hundreds of women are fleeing the conflict with their children into neighbouring Egypt and South Sudan.

As an organisation that recognises that women’s rights are human rights, we are deeply concerned about the lives of women in Sudan and the abuses they face. We are particularly concerned about women living with and/or most vulnerable to HIV, malaria and TB. We strongly condemn gender-based violence in the midst of conflict against those we know are the most vulnerable of the vulnerable.

Women 4 Global Fund endorses and echoes the call made by Sudanese Women Rights Action (SUWRA), International Service for Human Rights and the WHRD-MENA Coalition (here). We call for international action to stop human rights violations and to guarantee the right to health for women in all our diversity and to protect women in Sudan from all forms of abuse.
