Urgent Call for Health Rights and Safety of Women in all of our diversity in Conflict Zones: Women4GlobalFund’s Solidarity Statement on the Gaza Crisis

Women4GlobalFund expresses deep concern for the health rights of women in all of our diversity, especially young women, adolescents, and girls living in war zone situations, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and Israel. We firmly reject the attack on Al Ahli Arab Hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip that treated hundreds of children, women, displaced populations, and severely injured individuals. We stress on the protection of healthcare institutions and healthcare workers, which must be actively safeguarded and never targeted. We express our solidarity with women and children on the ground facing these complex circumstances, particularly concerned about those living with HIV and TB.

It is a matter of great urgency that we highlight the unique vulnerabilities faced by young women, adolescents, and girls in conflict zones. The ongoing hostilities and fragile healthcare infrastructure have exacerbated the already precarious situation, leaving them at heightened risk. The fundamental human rights of living, health, dignity, and the ability to make decisions regarding their own bodies and health are being compromised.

We call upon all stakeholders, including governments, international organisations, and civil society, to prioritise peace and access to essential healthcare services. We request the international community for support and sustained financial and technical resources to protect the rights of young women, adolescents, and girls in these challenging environments. It is essential to ensure that they have access to comprehensive healthcare services, including the prevention and treatment of HIV and TB, in a safe and non-discriminatory manner.

We urge for the immediate cessation of hostilities, the provision of humanitarian assistance, and the facilitation of safe and unimpeded access to healthcare services for all affected individuals, regardless of their age, gender, health condition, origin, religious beliefs, ethnicity, geographic location, self-identification, and sexual identity and orientation. It is only by upholding the rights and dignity of those living in conflict zones that we can hope to build a more just and equitable world.

Women4GlobalFund stands in solidarity with all those affected by the conflict in Gaza and Israel and commits to continue advocating for the protection and guarantee of the right to health, including the fulfilment of our sexual and reproductive rights, leaving no one behind, even in the most challenging circumstances.
