Strengthening HIV and Cervical Cancer Prevention through Community Engagement in Tanzania

At the 15th International Workshop on Women and HIV (April 2025, Barcelona, Spain), Women4GlobalFund proudly shared a poster highlighting the importance of strengthening HIV and cervical cancer prevention through community-led engagement.

The poster, titled “Strengthening HIV and Cervical Cancer Prevention through Community Engagement in Tanzania”, presents key findings from our Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) initiative implemented in Bahi and Kongwa districts. This initiative centred the voices of women living with HIV to understand and address barriers to accessing integrated, gender-transformative healthcare services.

Key Highlights:
• 16% of women screened showed signs of cervical cancer — 80% were women living with HIV.
• Only 36.3% of those who tested positive received follow-up care.
• 12.2% of women reported gender-based violence after screening.
• Access to services was hindered by lack of trained staff, supply shortages, and distance to health facilities.

This work underscores the urgent need to embed cervical cancer services into HIV programming, support women-led accountability, and confront structural barriers that put women’s health at risk.
