World AIDS Day 2025: Disruption Calls for Transformation: A Gender-Transformative HIV Response That Leaves No Woman Behind

As the world marks World AIDS Day 2025, we are called to reflect on this year’s theme: “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.” At Women4GlobalFund (W4GF), we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that women and girls, in all their diversity, remain at the center of the global HIV response.

This year’s commemoration coincides with the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)—a powerful reminder that the fight against HIV is inseparable from the fight against violence, discrimination, and systemic inequality. According to recent global estimates, nearly one in three women worldwide (840 million women) have experienced partner or sexual violence in their lifetime. This is not an isolated crisis—it is a global emergency.

This year, the Global Fund’s 8th Replenishment offers a critical moment for governments and donors to reaffirm their commitments. Fully funding the Global Fund means sustaining community-led responses, protecting lifesaving services, and ensuring that women and girls in all their diversity are not left behind.

Disruption must not mean retreat. It must inspire renewed commitment, solidarity, and action.
Together, we can build an HIV response rooted in gender justice, equity, and human rights.
