World Malaria Day: Driven to End Malaria

The Civil Society Declaration on World Malaria Day 2026.
Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must Place Communities at the Center!

Over the past two decades, the world has made significant progress against malaria, saving millions of lives. Yet today, that progress is at risk. In 2024 alone, malaria claimed more than 600,000 lives, with Africa still carrying 94% of the global burden.

As countries shape and implement Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8) funding requests, decisions made now will define malaria responses for years to come. In a context of constrained funding, it is essential to protect high-impact interventions, strong health systems and women leadership.

This World Malaria Day 2026, civil society and communities are united around one message: There is no path to ending malaria that does not begin and succeed with communities.

That’s why The Civil Society Declaration calls for:

  • Communities at the centre of malaria responses
  • Sustainable financing and investment
  • Equitable access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment
  • Stronger accountability and community leadership
  • GC8 commitments that prioritise women and girls in all their diversity ✊🏽🌍

Now we can.
Now we must.
