Civil Society & Communities Declaration for World Malaria Day 2025

Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite

On World Malaria Day 2025, Women4GlobalFund (W4GF) joins voices from across the globe calling for urgent, coordinated action to end malaria. The world faces a pivotal moment: 597,000 lives were lost to malaria in 2023, the vast majority in the African region—and many of them preventable.

📢 This year’s declaration is a united call from communities and civil society to reinvest in health systems that are resilient, inclusive, and gender-transformative. It reminds global and national leaders that a fully funded Global Fund—through the 8th Replenishment—is essential to save 23 million lives by 2029 and deliver on the promise of malaria elimination.

Our demands centre on:
🔹 Meaningful participation of women and girls in all their diversity in every stage of malaria programme design, implementation, and evaluation.
🔹 The prioritisation of civil society and community leadership, especially women-led grassroots organisations, to ensure accountability and impact.
🔹 Integrated, gender-transformative responses that address the specific needs of adolescent girls and young women, and protect decades of progress from the threat of anti-rights and anti-gender movements.
🔹 Domestic and global investments that reflect the urgency of this crisis, reduce inequities, and protect the health and dignity of all.
